Job Title: Project Development Engineer

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Project Development Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the technical aspects of projects from initiation through to ready-to-build status, ensuring all activities are aligned with project goals, budgets, and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong project management skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Job Description:
Technical Design:
- Collaborate with project teams to develop technical specifications, basic design and assist in requests for purchase.
- Perform the development engineering designs.
- Develop scopes of work for consultants for project design studies and owners engineering services.
- Technical and commercial evaluations and preform recommendations for vendor selection.
- Contract, coordinate and manage external consultants for services.
- Develop sketches and drawings suitable to communicate basic project information.
- Review and comment on reports and drawings, coordinate with suppliers to incorporate.
Project Development and Planning:
- Execute project development activities for assigned projects, from origination to ready-to-build status.
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and risk management strategies.
- Assist in the preparation of budget requests for assigned projects, monitor actual spending, and ensure activities align with the project schedule and budget.
- Coordinate project meetings, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned with project goals and timelines.
- Monitor project progress and make necessary adjustments to ensure timely completion.
- Plot land areas and update and optimize design and layouts based on information received from land owners and consultants.
- Participate in investment committee meetings
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all project-related communications with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Provide regular updates on project status, potential risks, and mitigation strategies to senior management and stakeholders.
Regulatory Compliance and Submissions:
- Prepare and submit applications and other compliance requirements to regulatory agencies, ensuring all submissions comply with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Maintain current knowledge of proposed industry rules, laws, regulations, policies, and standards pertinent to the assigned projects.
- Conduct site inspections with government field officers for the issuance of permits or with consultants for the preparation of site studies.
- Monitor and follow up on the status of permits and other requirements to ensure faster issuance or approval.
- Coordinate responses to questions and enquires on project
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in project development and engineering.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and methodologies to enhance project outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required, Electrical Engineering preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in the energy industry doing renewable design, or at least 3 years of experience in other industries performing engineering tasks.
- Organized, hardworking, resourceful and with good communication skills in English.
- Willing and physically able to travel to remote project sites in the provinces and abroad.
